Blues & Barbecue
Yes, there's been a festival at Blue Bluff on the banks of the Tennessee-Tombigbee Waterway in Aberdeen, Mississippi for a number of years. In the past, the festival featured all types of music ... but now, it's an all blues festival. Now, we're honoring our hometown blues heroes . . . Bukka White and Howlin' Wolf (did you ever hear Howlin' Wolf sing, "I was born in Mississippi . . . Aberdeen . . Aberdeen, Mississippi"?). Bukka White is believed to have been born in Aberdeen, also. Bukka and B.B. King were first cousins, and it is a known fact that B.B.'s very first guitar was presented to him by Bukka. Aberdeen is extremely proud of its blues heritage . . . proud that the above artists, both of whom had such a tremendous, lasting influence on Mississippi Blues Music . . . got their start right here!
So now, Aberdeen blends the best of the blues with the best of the barbeque . . . by serving as host for the Kansas City Barbeque Society's state competition! As they say, "it don't get no better than blues and barbeque."
So mark your calendar and make your plans to go there on 10th and 11th October on the beautiful banks of the Tenn-Tom Waterway. Admission to the Blue Bluff Festival is free and open to the public.
